Currently, this disadvantage has been reduced considerably due to the diversification of the means used for materials for Special Summon, but at the same time, the advantage of having penetrating ability has been reduced to the limit, and it does not belong to the theme and has no other abilities. It's even more so when it comes to low class monsters.

There are a few cards that deploy tokens, such as 《Scapegoat》, so it is possible to aim for the deployed tokens and turn yourself into a wall on the return turn.
Multiple monsters with high ATK have appeared, but it is possible to poke a gap.
It's not a bad move to send weak tokens with 《Creature Swap》.
The problem is that there aren't many ways to search, so it's hard to call when you want to find a gap.

For low-level dragon attackers, the 2000 RBI vanilla Alexand is the most stable.
