The reason why Katydid's lock doesn't fire is because of his deck composition that tries to go on the offensive in vain. If you stick to defense and cut from outrange, you can usually win.
My personal recommendation is the Watt Deck, which is built for defense, speed, and recovery after being knocked down.
This is not enough to lose. In other words, if you are an intermediate level player, you have the strength to match.
