Releasing a Plant gives you the effect of drawing 2 cards and discarding 1 card during the end phase. It's not very good as a hand exchange because I have one less card in my hand, but I want to maintain the ad somehow because I want to put a card in his GY for plants. Rather, the slowness of activating it in the end phase may be painful. Or if you can escape the release.
Releasing other races will become Plant reinforcements. This one is more powerful as an effect, but inevitably results in a Deck that is a mix of other races and Plants.
