I think it should be valued more as a hand trigger that protects the back.
Returning a set card is a cost, so it can play the role of a one-for-one exchange against 《Solemn Warning》and 《Solemn Strike》. [Artifact] Synergies can be demonstrated by chaining to Durandal's effect even within the category.
It is highly rated as a versatile card that can be used even if it is not an Artifact if it is a Deck that emphasizes Trap.

Artifact that does not have trigger effects at Special Summon like Labrys.

It's said that it's for End Cycle only, but there's another way to use it. It means that when his normal Spell/Trap is about to be destroyed, he can return it to his hand. For example, when Vegalta's effect forces you to destroy 《Bottomless Trap Hole》, you can use this card to avoid wasting it. It's not that bad of a card.
